What is Psychophysiology Coaching?
Coaching is a one-on-one process of multimodal training to support individuals who are experiencing difficulties with:
Anxiety and depression
Behavior regulation
Difficulties with social connection
Attention and learning differences
Memory and sleep
By exploring new patterns of physical, mental, and emotional responses to these difficulties, new options for response can be cultivated thus empowering the individuals with choices for leading happier healthier lives.
Biofeedback and Neurofeedback
Biofeedback—the use of sensors to track the physiological changes when we experience stress—can be a useful technique to develop mindful practices that shift us out of fight/flight/freeze and into a healthier, more productive way to be in the world. Coaching occurs in hour-long sessions and uses appropriate sensors in non-invasive applications.
Typically 2-8 1-hour sessions.
Neurofeedback is another form of biofeedback but uses non-invasive sensors attached to the scalp as a way to redirect brainwave activity locked into non-productive neural patterns. I prefer to start with the mastery of physiological control and then “go upstairs” if there is reason to suspect that the presenting problems might be resolved by shifting neuronal activation patterns. Combining Neurofeedback with biofeedback may also be effective.
Depending on the presenting issues, coaching might involve 20-30 sessions.
Issues that might benefit from Bio- or Neurofeedback include worrying, anger management, impulsivity, focusing, and sleep problems. Sessions are held at my home at 11 Rolling View Drive, Asheville NC 28805.
Psychophysiological training in the time of COVID
Training necessarily entails a breach of the six-eight foot proximity recommendation issued by the CDC. Proximity is required when attaching the sensors. If requested by the client, I will wear a facemask but I am comfortable with my triple vaccination status and do not require clients to mask. The space has a dedicated entrance, there is no shared waiting room, and there is a minimum 30-minute refresh between clients.
Training programs are individually tailored to meet the goals of the client. In our first meeting, we will discuss your goals, the kinds of training that would help you achieve those goals, and the time frame you can anticipate to realize these goals. We can then establish your specific fee structure.
"Using neurofeedback to improve attention, reduce anxiety, and promote optimal functioning requires not only sophisticated equipment but the wisdom and skills of a knowledgeable clinician. Dr. Schrader is one of the most skilled and caring clinicians that I have ever known. She is an incredible guide to the world of neurofeedback. Her ability to connect with children, teens, and adults and guide them in their journey is outstanding, leading to significant, sustained improvement."
