What is your movement source?

In these one-hour workshop sessions guided imagery is the source of our individual movement improvisations. No previous dance experience is necessary to join the sessions the goal of which is to discover new movement resources, inhabit new qualities of movement, and experience freedom through movement. Unlike a typical dance class, the session has no copy-cat component and does not conclude with a movement sequence one must master.  The session is fulfilled by fully and freely inhabiting the body free of any performance expectation. We move for pleasure.

 Upcoming classes: February 2, 9, 16, 23rd

$5-$10 per class

How does IBMR compare with 5 Rhythms?

IBMR is an orientation to improvisation that is driven by an individual’s response to a series of images—move as if your spine were seaweed, as if your arms were wrapped like rope, float your heart in your rib cage, feel the space support you like water are a few examples. The images compound as the hour evolves. It’s not a “copy cat” class, but participants are encouraged to use each other as movement libraries, exploring other solutions in the room. Unlike 5 Rhythms, where one dives into movement improvisation driven by the five rhythms music, in IBMR the facilitator is regularly offering new images to explore enabling participants to research their habits and explore new resources for movement invention. At the core, the work is about exploring pleasure in new movement pathways.

”In her IMR classes Connie creates a safe and fertile space for movers to sink into their skin move from new and forgotten places. Her descriptive prompts have inspired my body to generate new movement material in the moment as well as informed my teaching practice. Dancers and non-dancers alike leave Connie’s classes with joy and satisfaction.”
