A Gallery of Movement
Since 2019, and after a career as a teacher, choreographer, and movement arts performer, I have been exploring the visual arts finding myself especially drawn to techniques where chance plays an important role. So it is that I have come to making paintings using acrylic pouring techniques. My early explorations were very much a toe in the river of visual arts anchoring my work in the medium I know best—dance—while also grounding my approach in the field in which I specialize: Expressive Arts. This phenomenological orientation to art-making allowed me to collaborate with the paint rather than impose an aesthetic message on the canvases.
Since January 2022 I have been selling my paintings at my small gallery space at Marquee at 36 Foundy Street here in Asheville. In December, Clay and I began making and selling one-of-a-kind Charcuterie Boards there as well. The boards are made from trees that have fallen on our property here in Asheville or up in Burnsville. Clay then slabs the wood using a chainsaw and cures it here. We have devised a system for containing the resin we pour to make the “river” that decorates each board.
Last but not least, I also sell rocks that I paint using left-over paint from my poured paintings. a year or two ago, I had a lot of fun painting them and then placing them downtown. They rarely lasted a day before someone would snatch them for themselves! Since getting my gallery space at Marquee I have sold over 30 rocks!
